3 stars because it functions well, and a previous generation that I installed years ago is still going.

But, it has some significant issues.

The designers apparently don't have much real-world experience installing exterior light fixtures, because they clearly had a very limited set of conditions in mind.

- There's no recess in the base of this to accommodate the provided mounting adapter, much less a junction box that doesn't sit perfectly flush with the surface. As a result, there's almost always a gap between the base and the surface.

- The weatherproofing pad that's supposed to fill the gap between the device and the mounting surface is WAY too thin. It'll only work on smooth surfaces with a recessed junction box, else you'll have to augment it with another pad or caulk.

- It's only designed to mount on walls, even though floodlight fixtures are often located on soffits. This is a ridiculous oversight by Ring. You may be able to make it work, but it depends on the height and angle of your eaves. Also the hoods on the lights will be upside-down which can allow water intrusion unless it sits far enough back on the soffit for the lights to be sheltered from rain.

- Quality control is lacking. I installed 2 of these during a day trip to visit family in a different state, and wifi on one of them was dead. I spent an hour trying factory resets, power cycling, different options in the app, and nothing worked. Apparently this isn't an uncommon problem. I had to reinstall the original light and now I have to make another trip to try again.

Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus was easy to install (providing you have the electrical box) and setup through the Ring App. The app allows for multiple custom motion zones from within the cameras view. All alerts will begin a recording that can be customized for time of recording. Video is stored on the Ring servers but a monthly/yearly subscription is required once the free trial ends. The lights will activate during dark hours if motion is detected or can be setup on a schedule to come on and go off, as well as manually using the app. I also bought two Floodlight Pro's and feel the Plus, while not as fine a picture is still decent and clear enough to identify people that may be up to no good. I'd recommend the Plus version if it is monitoring a smaller area since much more economical. Mine is on the side of my garage to monitor the side driveway where it is mounted about 10-12ft off the ground. My wife and I are pleased with the purchase and have not had any issues since installing a few weeks ago.

I really like the adjustability of light direction and intensity, camera direction, and coverage area,. I get a lot of coverage along a long, narrow walkway. The unit is very sensitive and picks up movement as soon as I come into the detection area. The one drawback is the 'fisheye' effect of the video image. This is common with all my ring devices.

The manufacturing quality of all the devices I have is top-notch, I was really impressed with the materials and assembly of the floodlight cam. This quality combined with included accessories and easy-to-follow instructions make for super-simple installation.

My only reservations with the system as a whole are a general concern with loss of privacy, the need to subscribe in order to record/archive video (as far as I know there is no way to save video locally), and allowing another service provider access to my personal info.

I bought an indoor ring camera last year for security and I have been so very happy with it. So I decided to buy the ring outdoor camera with spotlights. The camera works in the dark as well as in the light and is motion activated. I was able to determine the exact area where I want it to be activated. The very easy to use Ring app allows you to show all of the ring devices. You have a single location. And they Communicate via the Wi-Fi in your house. I have been very satisfied with the quality, The images And the peace of mind I get. It is very easy to enable or disable the cameras from my iPhone when I leave my house. As well, each device has a microphone and a speaker so you can actually say something to an intruder or Activate a siren. I chose the very inexpensive monthly option that allows storage of every incident on every device, So I can go back and look at what happened.
